May 21st! Save that date! We’ve got a tour lined up at the Hotel Skyler in Syracuse. Hotel Skyler is one of only three LEED Platinum designed hotels. See the following excerpt from Hotel Skyler’s website (http://www.hotelskyler.com):
Sustainable hospitality in a reclaimed gem,
the Hotel Skyler in Syracuse
Sustainably speaking, Hotel Skyler is something extraordinary – a historic building reimagined and renovated to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum standards set by the U.S. Green Building Council. Built in 1921, the building began as the Temple Adath Yeshurun, and lived another life as the Salt City Theatre. As the saying goes, "the greenest building is one that's already here." Avoiding the waste of demolishing an existing structure is as important as any fancy new green technology.
But Hotel Skyler has plenty of that, too. A geothermal ground source heat pump provides heat and cooling for the building. A key card system manages energy use in the guest rooms: when you’re in, your key card powers up your outlets and lights – when you’re out, its absence tells the room to power down.
Environmentally friendly indoor materials and green housekeeping practices contribute to a place that's healthy for you and for the planet. Over 40 percent of construction materials came from local sources, Forest Stewardship Council certified wood is used almost exclusively, and recycled or salvaged materials abound. There’s even a special place to park your low-emission car.
Talk about upcycling – a reborn Hotel Skyler, sustainably preserved and ready to take its place as a premier Syracuse destination, welcomes you to a whole new way of staying green.
We hope you will be able to join us for this exciting tour. RSVP’s are a must. Please let me know as soon as you can if you plan on attending.

Finally! The 17th Annual Golf Outing photos are up! My apologies for the delay. I had a system crash that took longer to resolve then expected. The pictures can be found under Event Photo’s. You can download any picture by right clicking on the picture then clicking “Save Image As...” and saving it to the location of your choice on your hard drive. If you have any difficulties saving or you would like copies of the original size, please contact me via webmaster@csisyracuse.org.
The 2011—2012 season will be starting off with many new board and committee members that we’d like to thank for their time and commitment in helping make CSI Syracuse a diverse source of information and education for all parties of the construction industry. There is always room for more in the multitude of various committees, with elections being held yearly on board seats; some seats run one term and some are two terms. We welcome anyone that is interested to join us.
Old News, but still good news: The Board is planning upcoming programs and discussing various ways to make the Syracuse Chapter more efficient and up-to-date. There are many changes and updates in the works.
Is there a program you would like to see? Do you have a program or topic to suggest? Let us know.
We always welcome feedback, be it good or bad. That is the only way we will know what members are looking to get out of being a part of this organization. If there is anything you would like to discuss regarding Syracuse CSI, all board and committee members contact information is listed on the Officers & Chairpersons page.
Syracuse CSI still needs you! We still have many committee positions open. The more members that help out, the less work there is and the more ideas and creativity we get. We would love to have you join us. Come check out a board meeting anytime. Contact any Board member to find out how you can be a part of CSI Syracuse.
